One Year later (Savannah Jo, TWELVE months old)

One year later.

And I am forever changed.

Besides their larger size, my thighs now sport a spider web of blue veins.

The scar from your emergency C-section is still there, and though I tried to get out unscathed, my belly button boasts a couple stretch marks.

Those ten pounds are still holding on, and maybe they always will.

One year later, and evidence of you is everywhere.

In the cheerios that seem to find the smallest crevices to hide in the car.

The abundance of dirty diapers we’ve hauled out to the trash.

The toys that spread the floor and act as land mines during the middle of the night bathroom run.

It’s the cartoons that have replaced SportsCenter, and my old hobbies collecting dust from so much neglect.

And, yet the real ways you’ve changed me are the invisible things.

You probably can’t tell that my heart has tripled in size, because it’s swollen with so much love.

Do you know that when you freely hand out kisses and hugs, my day has been made?

Getting out of the house seems to take an eternity now. Yes, you’ve slowed down life, but in the best of ways.

Now, I stop to smell the flowers, because you’re smelling the flowers. For the very first time.

I pause to notice that airplane flying overhead, because it’s the most exciting thing you’ve seen all day. And, it is pretty incredible isn’t it?

Discovering all that life has to offer, through your eyes, is majestic.

Finding time to spend with the Lord is not easy now, but you’ve brought me closer to Him. Because, I understand now a little bit of His love for us. Because, for me, no sacrifice would be too great to make for you. That’s what real love is.

You’ve made me a better person Savannah.

I didn’t fall into this “motherhood” world so easy. In fact, I spent most of the first few weeks crying.

I’m not cut out for this!

And yet, here we are, one year later. And I wouldn’t change one.single.thing.

I don’t know if I’m the best Mom, but I know I love YOU. And I know I would do anything for you.

And, I think that is what makes me,

supermom.
